About Us

Cha-ya is a beautiful shop located in the heart of Downtown Monterey, California, and home to all of your exclusive Japanese teas, gifts and one-of-a-kind imports.  Whether you are looking for a specific item, stopping in for a hot cup of tea or browsing for a unique addition to our home, Cha-ya the perfect one-stop shop!  Along with great gifts, Cha-ya offers special events, classes and guest speakers to educate the Monterey Bay area on the beauty of Japanese culture and traditions. We can't wait to see you at Cha-ya!

Owner, Mitsuko Gammon, opened Cha-ya in Pacific Grove, CA in 2005.  She is trained in Ikebana (art of flowerr arrangement) and traditional tea ceremony. She has worked in the retail industry for many years. Mitsuko was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. She had long wanted to explore the possibilities of bringing her love of tea and Japanese culture to retail. Cha-ya is the result. July of 2008 Cha-ya relocated to Monterey location.
